Indonesia leads the world in mobile usage of Facebook

The first study to break down the amount of Facebook users accessing the site using a mobile device has been published by eMarketer. The research shows Facebook users in Indonesia are the most mobile-focused, with a massive 92% of the countries 63 million subscribers expected to visit on a mobile device at least monthly this year.

This is up from the 51 million Indonesian Facebook users in 2014, when 88% used a mobile device to browse the social network. The number is set to rise again in 2016 – 98% of the 76 million projected users – until 2018, when eMarketer predicts there will be 95 million users, and 99% of them will use a phone to visit Facebook at least once a month. India comes in second after Indonesia, with nearly 83% engaging with Facebook using a mobile device, while America is in third with just over 79%.

Returning to Indonesia, the research also notes that the majority of social networking users in the country are also Facebook and mobile Internet users. In 2014, it recorded 52.4 million social network subscribers, 81% of which used a phone to access their site of choice, and 95% browsed the mobile Web. These figures represent 20% of the population. The rate of growth isn’t expected to slow for the next few years.
